This is what happens....

When you let your three year old daughter dress herself...
white shirt, purple skorts, polka dot capris, striped tights, and Belle socks. Quite the fashionista!

Spring is here!!!

Lots of things happening in the Conley household. Spring is finally here and the snow is almost gone!!! Fred spent the weekend here and we had a great time. He's gone to Russia for two days and then tomorrow we all leave for our Estonia and Latvia trip! Looking forward to spending more time with him before he leaves.

Of course this weekend is Easter and the Finns do things a bit differently. On Palm Sunday, the kids dress up as witches and decorate pussywillow branches with feathers, pipe cleaners, streamers, etc. They take the branches to their neighbours house and chant "virvon varvon, tuoreeks terveeks, tulevaks vuodeks, vitsa sulle, palkka mulle" which basically means "with this twig I wish you blessings and good health for next year. You get the twig, I get a treat!". They give their neighbour the branch and the kids get a treat. Their version of trick-or-treating, I suppose.

We went to an event last weekend hosted for international families, and it was a willow twig decorating party plus an Easter Egg hunt. Fabulous party!!! I had invited over some of my friends from playgroup so there was a good turnout. And Maddy got a big loot bag of chocolate eggs. We plan on doing an Easter Egg hunt of our own in our front yard on Easter Monday, and she will also get one at school tomorrow morning.

Charlie is feeling better and recovering from the pneumonia. A few visits to the hospital but things seem to be clearing up. He will continue with his cough for a few more weeks but should get over it soon.

Tomorrow is the start of our very busy travelling summer season and I can't wait to see what the next few months have in store for us.

Happy Easter everybody!

Street Sweeper

Instead of the piles of salt that Canadian snowplows use to make the road a safer place, Finland uses gravel. So by the time spring comes around, the roads and the sidewalks are PLASTERED in gravel. Makes bike riding, jogging, or pushing a stroller a bit more difficult. Luckily I don't own any rollerblades, as I'm sure that would be an awful sight. So it was a pleasant surprise to step outside today with my dog and my stroller and see the sidewalks all swept up. Ahhh...... Spring is coming!!!

My Sick Little Dude

So my heart is broken. In a million pieces. Charlie got pneumonia and we spent four days in the hospital. It was a nightmare. Not to mention the four days prior to me taking him to the hospital, where he was either (1) screaming or (2) sleeping. And we all know how much he loves to sleep (sarcasm). Happy to report that we are home and he is recovering. Mind you, my counter looks like a pharmacy with all the different meds to needs to continue taking, but I have my healthy and somewhat-happy baby back and that's all that matters. xoxo Kim
