A Close Call

My husband had a close call on Friday and looking back on it, I don't think I've fully realized the seriousness of the situation until now.
We rent our apartment and it's in a pretty old house. In preparation for Andrew's first half-marathon race on Sunday, Andrew came home from work early on Friday and announced he was going in the sauna. Luckily it takes half an hour to warm up, because I left to go pick up Maddy from school. When I got back, he went in the sauna.
A few minutes later, he started yelling my name. He was stuck in the sauna!!!! Meaning that the door lock mechanism jammed when he closed the door and he couldn't open the door to get out!! Thank heavens I was home, I was able to turn off the sauna (the switch is located OUTSIDE of the sauna doors).
It probably could have won America's Funniest Home Videos if someone was recording the events that occured afterwards. We both pounded on the door but was unable to get it open. I got out the tools and randomly passed Andrew some screwdrivers and assorted tools underneath the crack of the door, but nothing worked. I took the hammer and removed all of the wood from the door frame but could not access the screws on the hinges to remove the door. Trying to explain what I saw from my side of the door, I was taking pictures with the camera and passing the camera under the door so that Andrew could see what I was looking at.
Finally we decided to give up and I called a locksmith. By this point, Andrew had already been locked in the sauna for an hour, and the guy wasn't able to come until another one and a half hours (after trying two other locksmiths).
Realizing there was nothing left I could do, I passed Andrew his iPod and resumed to our apartment, where I cooked dinner and fed the kids.
180 euros later but at least I have my husband back, and he didn't shrivel up into beef jerky, as he says. But we were thankful for the crack under the door so that I could pass him a pair of boxer shorts before the locksmith opened the door :)
